Welcome to the Smoke & Hope Devlog!

This is the first post that will be part of our ongoing devlog dedicated to keeping you, our community, up to date with the design process of Smoke & Hope!  You may be asking yourself, "well what are you gonna share with us?": in this first devlog we would like to share a little bit of our game's world and its first character.  Let us begin!

First we would like to give you a bit of context to the world of Smoke & Hope.  As you probably have seen, our game will be a visual-rhythmic novel set in an alternative 1930s New York (a more detailed explanation of this will be in a separate devlog).

The first character we want to introduce to you is none other than the protagonist, the person you will play as :)

She is (insert name) Engels.  Why insert name?  Because you will give her her first name lol.  We wanted to give you the pleasure of doing that.  She come from a family of European immigrants wanting to chase the American dream.  She has always been a tough gal who prefers to uphold the principles that were taught to her by her parents, especially since she lost them at a young age.  This forced her to prematurely take on the responsibilities of an adult in order to look after her only remaining family: her sister.

Even though she was pushed into the responsibilities of an adult, she's still quite the airhead in many aspects.  The way that she tries to support her family is with the talent her parents nurtured her with: her voice.  Although she has talent, her position as an amateur becomes a great obstacle that she must overcome.  While she improves she will begin to meet new faces that will put her in unexpected situations and places.

We hope you decide to follow our progress because we have a lot in store for you in the upcoming devlogs including new characters, the world, the storyline, art and much, much more.  Look forward to our game Smoke & Hope!
